My name is Satu Soininen and my family consists of my husband Jaakko and our children Joonas (7 yrs) and Emma (5 yrs). I am a kindergarten teacher by training. I began working as a teacher at the Finnish School of Seattle in Fall 2008. Between 2005 and 2008 I taught at the Finnish School of Vancouver in Canada, and before moving to Vancouver we lived in Virginia, right next to Washington D.C. During the time in Virginia I took part in founding a Finnish music kindergarten. Spending time outdoors and wandering in nature with my family are close to my heart, and these activities can be easily fulfilled here in the Seattle area both during summers and winters.
Most challenging at my work right now is to learn how to play the kantele and to integrate this skill with the singing sessions I have with the children at school. I believe that working at the Finnish school is an important connection to Finland and its language and culture, and I hope that I am able to deliver these connections through my teaching to the Finnish school children and families.
