I am originally from Eastern Finland, where I spent my childhood and study years. I came to the United States the first time in 1993, here in Seattle, and I have been on that same road ever since. I started the Finnish School of Seattle in 1995 and I keep on working for the school with all my heart, because of my love for children and pride of being a Finn. I hope this comes through in my work with the children at our Finnish school. Although I do enjoy living in the big world away from the original homestead, every summer I return there with enthusiasm to meet my relatives and friends, and of course to pick up any and all new teaching material and catching the latest trends in Finnish language and culture. Among my passions are Finnish pop songs (“iskelmä”) and traditional Finnish open-air dance events. Just as at our school, we also celebrate both Finnish and American holidays at our home. In this way we honor the cultures of both countries: my daughter’s native country America and our roots from Finland.
